My Clinical Experience as a Counselor in Pocatello Idaho

"I have dedicated 6 years to school and thousands of hours in clinical experience."

From my years of school, I have been awarded a Bachelors degree of science in Health Psychology and a Masters of Counseling in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. As an undergraduate student, I assisted in research looking at how to effectively change health behaviors and how those changes affect people. I also assisted in research that aimed at understanding how social media is connected with health behaviors and overall health of people who use social media. As a graduate student, I completed multiple internships where I provided mental health treatment to various demographics including children, teens, adults, and retirement age adults. Through this experience I have encountered, and gained experience treating various mental health concerns.

My Specialties

In an effort to meet the needs for counseling in Pocatello I specialize in providing depression counseling, anxiety therapy, marriage and couples counseling, bipolar disorder counseling, borderline personality disorder treatment, trauma therapy, and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) treatment. Pocatello is a wonderful community that deserves the best counseling available.

Clinical Approach

"I provide counseling with two approaches, 'person centered' and 'existential psychotherapy.'"

Any time you go to therapy, the counselor you work with will have a specific approach to treatment. These counseling approaches can almost be as unique as the individual. However, there are approaches that are more effective than others. In my experience providing counseling in Pocatello, I have found two approaches that are effective, work well together, and are consistent with who I am as a person.

"Person Centered" is one of my two counseling approaches I take in therapy with counseling clients. This counseling approach largely focuses on the client-counselor relationship. Many studies have found that among all the interventions or things a counselor does for counseling clients in therapy sessions, the client-counselor relationship is the most therapeutic or helpful. I often talk with counseling clients about how this client-counselor relationship is completely unique in comparison to all other relationships in our lives. No where else can you talk with someone who is completely objective and non-judgmental while also having an unconditional desire to provide you help. My ultimate goal with this approach is to provide you as the counseling client, a safe space where you can literally talk about anything, while also developing a working relationship to help you work through your problems.

"Existential Psychotherapy" is the other counseling approach I utilize in treating counseling clients. This "theory" is a unique counseling approach due to it not having a prescribed technique like other counseling approaches. It is more of a philosophical perspective on the human experience of life. In a nutshell, the goal of this counseling approach is to help counseling clients make meaning out of their experiences. To do this, I help counseling clients confront some uncomfortable "givens of life." These givens are death, freedom, isolation, and meaninglessness. When you as a therapy client are able to recognize that these four givens exist, and then discover what that means for you, you will likely be able to cope with whatever your problems are.

Why I Started Ridgeline Counseling in Pocatello

My mission is to provide the best counseling in Pocatello possible. I am committed to helping people overcome the barriers in the way of making lasting change in their mental health.

As as sophomore in college, I was in a major and career path that wasn't the right fit for me. I eventually came to the realization that I was most interested in psychology and becoming a counselor. So, I changed my major to psychology with the goal of becoming a counselor.

Throughout my studies, and professional career, I have continued to grow my curiosity about how the human mind works. Working as a counselor in Pocatello, I recognized that there is a need for quality mental health care. The best way I could see to help fill that need was to open my own private counseling practice. In April of 2023, I took that leap and have enjoyed the ride ever since.
