Depression Counseling

Begin feeling better with therapy for depression symptoms.

You feel trapped in a relentless cycle of profound sadness and hopelessness.
Depression has you feeling isolated and exhausted.

As a depression counselor, I understand that depression is more than just a fleeting bout of sadness; it's a complex and pervasive mental health condition.

Many people often wonder, "What is depression?" It's a legitimate question, as depression symptoms can manifest in various ways, from persistent feelings of sadness and hopelessness to physical symptoms like changes in appetite and sleep patterns.

Fortunately, there is hope, and treatment for depression is available. As a depression counselor, I specialize in providing effective depression therapy to help you find your way out of the darkness. With compassion and expertise, I am here to support you on your journey to healing and renewed well-being. Don't let depression hold you back!

As a Depression Counselor, I can help.

I provide Counseling for Depression in Pocatello Idaho. Working with me is an opportunity to treat your depression symptoms.

Depression sucks. The hopelessness and exhaustion often feels like it will never go away. It might be hard for you to believe right now, but you can feel better. Depression doesn't have to be permanent.

You might be wondering, "how can talking to someone even help me?" It may seem like nothing is going to help. As a counselor who specializes in depression therapy, I hold hope for you. Why? Because I have seen how opening up about  depression symptoms in therapy has lead to people walking out feeling hopeful and good about life again.

Don't be fooled. I am not offering some magic cure. Treating depression is not an easy process. It will require you to work at it. In depression therapy, you will experience some discomfort. To the point that you will likely want to quit. However, I know that if you stick with it, depression treatment will work!

Depression Symptoms

Recognizing the symptoms of depression is the first step to getting better.

Depression symptoms can be treated by depression counseling

As a depression counselor, I have seen depression shown in many different ways. Everyone is unique, so it is no surprise that depression symptoms can look different in different people. As I have provided depression treatment there are some common symptoms of depression I have seen in depression counseling sessions. Here are some of the common depression symptoms I have seen in depression counseling.

  • Little interest or pleasure in doing things. You just don't enjoy your hobbies anymore.

  • Feeling down, depressed or hopeless. No matter what, the sadness always seems to stay.

  • Changes in sleep. You aren't sleeping at all or you sleep too much.

  • Lack of energy. It seems like you are always tired. Everything feels like it is a burden to accomplish.

  • Changes in eating. You don't have an appetite, or you are eating more than you normally do.

  • Feeling bad about yourself. Feeling like you're a failure or have let yourself or your family down.

  • Trouble concentrating. Simple tasks are hard to focus on like reading or watching TV.

  • Suicidal thoughts. Thoughts that you would be better off dead or of hurting yourself in some way.

These are only some of the symptoms of depression. To learn more about depression symptoms, check out this blog post I wrote.

My Counseling Approach to Depression Therapy

My goal as a depression counselor is to treat you as the individual you are. I work to help you cope with depression symptoms and ultimately find relief.

That fact that you are reading this means you have likely been affected by depression in some way. If you are considering taking the brave step of getting depression treatment through counseling, you probably feel like nothing else you have tried works.

Depression counseling with me consists of sitting down at my office, where we talk about what depression symptoms you are experiencing. I often start with some questions about what depression symptoms have caused you the most problems.

Once we both feel like we have a clear picture of your experience with depression, we then talk about the goals you want to accomplish in therapy. We work on identifying the "triggers" to your depressive symptoms and explore ways you can cope with the persistent sadness.

Depression counseling, treatment for depression

When treating depression, inevitably I end up talking about five key areas that can improve your mood.

  1. We explore how your sleep hygiene affects your depression. We look at how much sleep you get and when you sleep.

  2. We talk about your diet. What you eat and how much you eat has a significant effect on how strong your depression symptoms are.

  3. Exercise is another crucial aspect of treating depression. We talk about how much you move and what effect that has on your mood.

  4. Your exposure to sunlight is closely connected to how intense your depression symptoms are. I try to gauge how much time you spend outside and talk about ways to ensure you are getting enough fresh air and sunlight.

  5. Social interaction is another key component of depression counseling and treatment. Depression and isolation are closely connected. Whether you are an "introvert" or "extrovert," social interaction is necessary to reduce depression symptoms.

As we continue in the depression therapy process, we do what is called "processing." What this means in simple terms is we try to learn from your experiences as we review them and find ways to understand what depression symptoms you are feeling and possibly why you feel depressed.
