Borderline personality disorder can leave you feeling like you will never have a stable relationship. As a borderline personality disorder counselor, I can help you address your BPD symptoms and improve your relationships.

BPD Therapy in Pocatello Helps You Feel Secure

As a BPD therapist, I use DBT to help you improve your relationships.

You are exhausted by the constant fear that everyone you love is going to abandon you. You feel like no matter how hard you try, you don't receive the attention you need. Borderline personality disorder doesn't have to rule your life.

BPD treatment can provide you with the knowledge and skills to cope with BPD symptoms. BPD therapy is an opportunity to work with a BPD counselor and find ways to cope with the feelings and behaviors that have put a strain on your relationships.

Dialectical behavior therapy, or DBT, is a BPD therapy that I use to shed light on unhealthy behaviors, and develop skills to reduce BPD symptoms. DBT has been proven to reduce the impact of BPD in the lives of those you struggle with BPD symptoms.

Borderline Personality Disorder Symptoms

If you think you have BPD, your behavior may look like this.

BPD symptoms

As a BPD counselor, I have seen how borderline personality disorder can affect people in different ways. It is common for those who experience BPD to have many relationships that were unhealthy or intense both in conflicts and in showing affection. As I have provided BPD treatment there are some common symptoms of borderline personality disorder. Here are some of the common BPD symptoms I have seen in BPD counseling.

  • Feeling abandoned. Coupled with intense or frantic efforts to avoid the abandonment whether it is real or imagined.

  • Intense relationships. Fluctuating from intense conflicts to overemphasizing affection. Relationships are ended and started again frequently.

  • Poor self-esteem. Needing consistent reassurance.

  • Impulsivity. Commonly in ways that are dangerous. Suicide attempts and/or threats are common.

These are only some of the symptoms of BPD. To learn more about borderline personality disorder symptoms, check out this blog post I wrote.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Treating BPD

DBT is a well researched treatment, proven to help reduce symptoms of borderline personality disorder.

You may recognize already that your BPD behavior has gotten in the way of enjoying healthy relationships. You are ready to find a new way to handle the emotions and reactions associated with BPD, that have felt uncontrollable.

Dialectical behavior therapy is your chance to overcome your BPD symptoms. The goal of DBT is to help you become aware of your behaviors, emotions, and reactions. Once you are aware of your BPD symptoms, then you can start to change your behavior. You can say goodbye to BPD and enjoy healthy relationships.

DBT consists of both learning skills and "processing" your experiences. By processing, or looking back at past experiences, you can learn what behaviors and reactions have caused you problems. Then through learning DBT skills, you can start to address your BPD symptoms and behaviors.

A Note on DBT

Dialectical behavior therapy has a strong emphasis on two areas: Awareness/acceptance, and education on coping skills. Through processing in DBT, you can learn to recognize how your past behavior has caused you problems. Then you can learn DBT skills to address those issues. There are four areas that dialectical behavior therapy skills focus on:

  1. Mindfulness - becoming aware of emotions and not letting them control your reactions. â€‹

  2. Distress tolerance - learning how to sit with difficult emotions rather than avoiding them.

  3. Emotion regulation - a skill that can help manage or change problematic emotions.

  4. Interpersonal effectiveness - in other words, communicate clearly what you feel and what you need.
